Re: How does DHPOS compare to real POS software.
Finally working on EPOS equipment again.....those self service checkouts! The biggest thing when comparing DHPOS to "real" POS software is speed! It is so quick to load, especially if you are using a MS-DOS machine! The closest real POS program I've seen runs from DOS, connecting to a SCO-UNIX serve...

Re: Do you want to sell POS systems?
Its easier just to add this to autoexec.bat
C:\POS\POS.EXE
I don't know if its worth putting this line in CONFIG.SYS too (prob not necessary for newer PCs)
PATH=C:\POS

Alan

Actually
The AMD Athlon 64 is a 64bit processor that can run 32bit software, the Intel Core Duo can also run 64bit software. What Dale is referring to is PCs running completely at 64bit, ie an Athlon 64 or Intel Core Duo (using 64bit) running Windows XP or Vista 64bit editions. The DOS Prompt has been emulat...

Right
I'm now using my iMac full time, I've just literally downloaded the latest VMWare Fusion Beta which allows you to have DOS or Windows in a window or full screen. VMWare is much the same as the Parallels program. I believe that it uses one of your processors (you have an Intel Core Duo/Core 2 Duo pro...

I don't read Finnish, but I saw a lot of information about serial ports, so I would imagine that you would need to use Aprint for this machine.

DH-POS on an Apple machine?
Hi folks, I'm going to try a wee project soon. I'm moving over to solely Apple machines in the house soon, so i've got an iMac 20" (Intel Core Duo) and MacMini (Motorola G4) I hope to add a MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo) to complete the transition. The Intel Mac of course can run Windows XP SP2 (and a...

Hmm
I may have an Epson Parallel adapter lying around. IIRC The Epson TM-U300 does not have a seperate data card. I've still got 2x Axiohms, 2x Epson H6000II, 1x Epson TM-U210B, 1x Epson 290II slip printer lying in the house and they are all serial. You will find that 90% of EPOS printers in the UK are ...

Doubtful
POS uses hardly any network resources at all, I should'nt even slow down even on a 10Mb network. I've had issues with a POS server running on a P60 with Windows 3.11 and an XP PC accessing it, it would cause massive delays on the XP PC's POS screen. Round the other way it was extremely fast. Running...

overkill
Very few 64-bit PC's actually have the 64-bit version of Windows XP anyways. My PC is 64-bit but everything I have is 32bit.

Alas no
I've looked everywhere and I can't see the Beetle PCI cards for sale anywhere. The Wincor Beetle machines have these ports built into the motherboards, a Beetle 5/XL (P166) certainly has them built in (and usually 3x on the ISA SNIKEY controller card if they have one) I did find these however - http...

Ah
I think I have one in the van, it requires a 12v POWERED serial port though!
You would probably need a Wincor Nixdorf PCI Serial card to provide two powered ports.
Alan
(forgot to mention that I work with Siemens repairing the Siemens/Wincor Nixdorf machines)
