I think you have exemplified in this post (more so than any other) why I wouldn't consider giving away a product for free. As I have mentioned before, I think you are very generous to offer your product (and, apparently, technical support) free of charge. However, I believe, based on your comments, ...

Hmm... Well, if you're not particularly daring--that is to say, you don't want to try out one of the home-grown networking packages developed by DOS fans over the years--ebay is still a great source for networking components. I'm personally most fond of OS/2 with LanServer and we use it in several o...

Ok, just a couple of thoughts... First, there is plenty of information on the net about serial communication. Not just RS-232, but RS-422 and RS-485 as well, if you have some really old/obscure/proprietary printer. So...STOP BOTHERING DALE AND GO PESTER GOOGLE...it's amazing what you will find. And ...

But have you installed them to use DHPOS? No...why would it make a difference. From what I've seen of your software, it simply requires a DOS device for printer output, ie., LPT1 or COM1. Configuration of COM1 is an OS function, not an application software function. If you're talking about control ...

I have never understood the mysticism that seems to surround serial printers and serial devices in general. We've installed hundreds of serial printers (not to mention terminals, credit card processors, scanners, scales, coin dispensers) without incident. It's not really that big of a deal...

All that and a bag of chips?

I would be curious to know exactly why you think all this should be free? Mr. Harris has graciously offered up his time and talent to provide a free POS package for a wide variety of (read: non niche market) retailers. This is very generous of him, and unusual in this market. It's a nice feeling whe...

Are you actually talking about a dumb terminal? I mean a real green screen VT100, Wyse 60 or similar? It sounds to me like what you are referring to is more of a thin client application. We've got a couple of those that connect to a terminal server on our one and only W2K box. If it's a dumb termina...

Oh, yes indeed! For some reason, I have had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things today...so I wasted the day browsing on line... Your forum is rather interesting, however, from a professional standpoint. Personally, I need something with a little more control, for the most part, ...

I've had an awful lot of luck using 3COM Etherlink III cards with DOS requesters, to attach to OS/2 Servers. I would imagine the WIN box shouldn't be any harder. You can find them on eBay dirt cheap...

Guest, Are you trying to run a restaurant? You seem to be describing a "multiple service round" feature common in restaurant POS. Sounds nice, but kind of outside the realm of what this program is designed for--if I'm understanding, in fact, what this program is designed for...

Auto closing is extremely common in high-end retail...if there is the chance an operator may screw something up, or forget an important step, this facility is crucial. If you want to be able to lock the doors and walk away at night, it's just a convenience. I've set up many small retailers to auto c...

I'll keep an eye on this, too...

I'm probably missing something here, but how do you use Telnet on a dumb terminal? I guess telnet is a connection-independent service, but doesn't it have to have a host program and a client program?

I hate to say this, but probably a waste of time... Their hardware is essentially a souped up PC, with special interfaces for POS related hardware. Unfortunately, the devil is in the details, as they say, and those details are really hard to come by. You will have a difficult time getting the contro...
