Limits

While it is true that there are things that can be done so that DOS software can use all the available memory on a hard drive is does so by switching things in and out of memory. This takes time. While I do use these methods when switching to different functions the thing I do not want to do is to s...

Screen saver

okiepc, That usually happens when the program is run in a Window instead of full screen. Windows has problems when a DOS program is using screen pages in a window. The solution is to run POS full screen or to not use the POS screen saver and use the Windows one instead since it will override the POS...

POSnet - The concept

Since this note was originally posted the network version has been released. <hr> Well folks since the beta version of POSnet will be released this weekend I thought that it would be a good idea to explain how it needs to be set up and how it will work. System speaker

capn_buzzcut, The key press beep uses the SOUND command to send a signal to your system speaker. This is a cheap speaker mounted in the main unit of your computer, maybe. Since most computers now have "gee-whiz" audio boards with sensurround, 3-D, sound the manufactures of some computers have decide...

Limitations

Eli, Since I write in QuickBASIC every program that I write will eventually come up against limitations. You can only do so much in 640k. While it would be very nice to have everything in the program to be automatic and self loading that would mean that not only would the POS program have to be able...

Scanner & price changes

Eli, First the scanner thing. The reason that you have to press [ENTER] after scanning an item is that the scanner has not been programmed to use <RETURN> as its termination character. When properly programmed a scanner willl not only send the number that it reads from the barcode but also one addit...

Fine with me

Nathan,

I encourage people to give away my software when selling their hardware as long as they make it clear that it is the hardware that is being sold and that the software is included for free, as you are planning on doing.

So fine, go ahead.

POS version 5.0

Eli, Some time this year I will be changing the program to allow 14 digit stock numbers to accomodate the new international barcode system that will begin in 2005. Of course you will still be able to use any stock number from 1 to 14 digits long. Version 5.0 will have network capabilities as its new...

Open cash drawer code

Rafi, Use the "Open cash drawer" feature in the POSCONFG.EXE program. Choose LPT1: as the port and then on the next page enter only 7 as the open cash drawer code. You will not need any drivers. All the above assumes that your printer attaches to your computer through the parallel printer port and N...

Guest, The POS program is designed to be a cash register and not an accounting program. Therefore it gives you the information that you need to enter into either your separate accounting software or actual paper books.
