The only thing that springs to mind is Lexifile from http://www.lex.sk.ca - their DOS version is free now but it is more geared towards Libraries so can be a bit daunting to those not used to MARC records etc.

In POSCONFG, under the Passwords screen set the mode of "close" to "1" which will require the master password to be entered to access the close register screen. Works here for me, you may need to enter chat and alter the refresh rate by using the command /refresh numofseconds . It does flicker occasionally and the chat messages are ordered in reverse but it works.

If all else fails use IE just to get into chat.
