Re: The _rec file
Thanks for that Dale. So if you delete the _rec file, you do lose the old sales data. What it creates is a new empty _rec file ready for future records to be saved. That makes sense. I had a setting of 10000 which under the circumstances was too much - better to make it something like 100 I guess. I...

The _rec file
Dale, what does the _rec file do? It grows like crazy. I'm just setting up a demo and on the old laptop I'm using which only has a small h/drive it seems to be growing like mad. It looks as though it holds transaction report data - when you delete it am I right that the program just recreates it aga...

:| Sorry Dale, I understand your frustration. I always stay a bit behind the curve though as I'm not the end user. I'm hoping to have a bit of time over this Christmas break as many UK companies are closing down for what seems like weeks. So I should be able to put the new version through its paces ...

You can't reset the transaction number and history file. If you could that would make fraud possible. Once you start to use the system the audit trail is continuous. If it wasn't the system would be useless for serious users. The only thing you can do if you want to experiment with the system and fi...

Yeah, very nice. But highly specialised. Lot of work just for one person I'd have thought, but then who am I to say I'd still prefer to have the option when you receive new stock you automatically update the value of stock held of each item received (by the new average cost) and hence the value of t...

Come on, you're kidding :? I may have led a sheltered life but I've never heard of that one. How are you supposed to do that - does the waiter go back to the table, make notes on who wants to pay for what then go away and print separate bills? Get away - if everyone did that the restaurant would hav...

Hmmmmm You don't mark up - you check locally to see what the market can stand and then price accordingly. Then you buy products and ingredients of the appropriate quality for your target market at the best prices you dang well can. Restaurant margins appear very high - but so can overheads be and th...

Categories are the 'natural' way the stock file is set up without thinking or bothering about Groups. It obviously makes sense for a food store to list fresh and frozen foods under different headings, and fruit and vegetables and so on. These headings are the categories into which your stock file is...
