Hmm

Sounds great IF somebody can program a touchscreen interface that interfaces with POS.

The NCR units that I've seen in the UK have a fancy animated and musical front screen which connects to a standard Win32 DOS till screen running behind it, with an onscreen keyboard for managers to fix problems.

Ha

I see this quite often these days when fixing customers tills. One of my largest customers is using tills dating from 1997-2000 which run 24/7, these machines typically still have 1.2Gb hard disks that are worn out making the till extremely slow and not surprisingly are freezing (causing them to loo...

Actually the IM-300 is fine!

Sadly DH-POS does'nt support touchscreen, BUT the Epson IM-300 till is an excellent machine, In fact on the IM-300 the touchscreen was optional oddly many stores use a keyboard!!! For those that don't know, the IM-300 is a Pentium 200MMX based box with a DSTN (TFT optional) LCD mounted to the front,...

Hmm

Even better just get a Mac Mini running a DOS emulator... (Aopen are doing a PC clone of it...) For those that are looking for small POS base units in the UK, then try and look around for a second user Elonex Book PC or Lumina (or one of the earlier PC4xx series with small case) Elonex continue to m...

Regarding DOS in 2nd screen

Alas I've never managed to get full screen DOS on a dual display PC. I think somebody mentioned a Windows version - that would certainly work. You can usually make a MS-DOS window larger, that might be ok if you are using a low-resolution screen. I've seen a lot of tills with LCD touchscreen on the ...

Oh?

I've got an IBM 4694-V07 (207 with HDD) which urm does'nt have a parallel port so i've not been able to test it fully. How does it work with IBM peripherals? Essentially if Dale could interface DH-POS with the ESC/POS standards all of these serial devices would work. I'm out on the field fixing Nixd...

Yeah

I'm sure that Norton Internet Security 2005 (or wait until v2006 comes out) has a parental filter.

Other than that I've tried a program called We-Blocker.

Been Playing!

Well i've just been playing recently with Windows 2000 Server and its Terminal Services feature. DH-POS runs quite briskly (as it usually does!) when I've been running it from terminal clients. The server? A PIII/450 with 256Mb RAM and an 80Gb HDD. The client? Tested on a Compaq P60, Wyse Winterm et...

Hmm

I've seen a few similar features, yes it could be a good option. I've seen tills that go into Secure Mode, and require a password to get back in, and also I've noted many stores have a feature in the back office that checks to see if tills are logged on to ensure compliance (ie 2 customer service ti...

I'm back!

I have a confession to make.....I've been away from here for ages....because I'm now working as a Siemens EPOS Field Engineer, repairing tills for the largest supermarket chain in the UK....

Interestingly they use Win32 based DOS screens on their tills!

Alan's having an EPOS sale again

Oh yes...its time for my annual EPOS sale, when I put all my POS junk lying around on eBay! Only thing is that they will only be of interest to those in the UK. The Epson TM-T88III and the U210A printers are recommended for DH-POS. Epson TM-290II Slip printer: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...

Aha

Hi there, I have an IBM 4694-X07 base unit in the house. The 4694 could run the IBM EPOS 4680/90 operating system (connecting to a server) or DOS/Windows. Mine has the following specification: VIA C3 550Mhz processor 128MB SDRAM memory 20Gb hard disk VIA motherboard with built in video (uses main RA...

Yes

They would work fine with POS. Something technically minded folks should note about the Citizen 3xxx series of printers, those feed/online buttons with the exception of some of the newest 3550's are easily broken if pressed too hard. To replace the switch you need to totally strip the printer, remov...
