Total value of inventory

Post by Dale Harris » Wed Nov 17, 2004 8:43 pm

I have added a new feature to the POS program. When you go to the "Reports" feature and make an inventory report it will now tell you the total monetary value of your inventory. If you sort your report by category or vendor it will give you the monetary value of your inventory by each category or vendor respectivly.

To turn this feature on you must go to the "Inventory" feature of the POSCONFG.EXE program.

I need some folks to do some beta testing on this feature. The link below will download a file that will unzip into a new FILEINFO.EXE and POSCONFG.EXE program files version 6.19. To use these files it is assumed that you are currently running POS versions 6.17 or 6.18. Make sure that you make backups of your old files.

Upon further review...

I have made a change to the new feature that shows the value of the inventory.

On chat last night where we played with this new feature Barry asked if it gave the value of the inventory at "cost" (what you paid for it) or at "sell" (what you will sell it for.) I told him that was for "cost."

Then I got to thinking. Maybe there would be reasons why a store owner would want to know what is the "sell" value of the inventory. So I made it optional.

Now when you go to the "Inventory" feature of the POSCONFG.EXE program you will be offered the options of "NO" value printed on the inventory report, the "COST" value or the "SELL" value.

To download the new beta version 6.19B2 of the POSCONFG.EXE and FILEINFO.EXE files use this link...

Dale,

With the sale/cost value you can only select one, could it be possible to select both?

Secondly, I found it bizarre that the sale price is lower than the cost price in my stock table....

In my stock table of 10439 items, the
Cost price is $4,984,377.73 but.....
Sell price is $2,147,483.47

And the sell price crashes after $2,147,483.47....... possible wrong data type?

Currency

Barry,

I have changed the variable type keeping track of the inventory value from long interger to currency. That should stop "out of range" errors.

It was an overflow error.

It was funny really since the limitation of long is 2147483647, but it only showed up as 2147483.47 ... where did the 6 go???

Hmmmmm.....

Barry.

10 billion dollars

Post by Dale Harris » Sat Nov 20, 2004 4:12 am

Barry,

The missing digit was caused by a non-fatal overflow error. I have changed the program so that now the error will be caused only if you have an inventory value equal to or larger than 10 billion dollars.

If someone has an inventory that exceeds 10 billion dollars then I guess that they will just have to go out and buy some POS software. :)
