High CPU Usage

I been using DHPOS for about 3 years now and been running it on Windows 98se with DHPOS v3.46. I never upgrade it because it was running smooth for me, never had any problems. Until yesterday my hard drive died and I upgraded my pc to Windows XP Pro SP2 with same hardware. AMD 700MHz, 256MB SD-Ram, added new 80GB HDD.
I downloaded and installed DHPOS latest version v6.37a. It's running all good now even first time I tried the network feature it was awsome. Ok now I use the Ctrl+Alt+Del feature of windows and I was suprise to see that my computers CPU Usage was running around 98% - 100%. If I close DHPOS it drops to normal 0% - 10%.
Has anyone encounter this and is there a solution to fix this. I have made screenshots but don't know how to post them here.
Thanks in advance.

apara197,
Yep, welcome to DOS software. Try this. From the POS.EXE main menu if you press [F9] it will put the program to sleep. That might help.

No, Before You Go Back To 98 Try Going To Dale's Old POS Versions Page This Has All The Versions After 1.08B And It Should Have The Version You Were Using
Old POS Versions

Will not help

Actually an older version will not help because all POS versions use the same keyboard input routines.

I think I may have a trick just for the moment. What I did is I pressed 2. Return / Payout - and do nothing, the CPU Usage dropped to 5%-6% and to ring next sale I just press ESC and ring the sale. Maybe it's the main menu that is taking so much CPU Usage. If I do the POSCONFIG cpu usage is normal only when the screen goes back to Main Menu. Even ringing a sale cpu usage drops too.
O well that's my solution just for the moment.

Using Linux as the server, I ran 13 pos at the same time with only 15% cpu usage. This isonly on a 800mhz system with 256mb ram.
I had probs at last job with high cpu usage when the pos screen saver came active.
You might want to check there.
I hope to have this linux version ready by the end of the year.

What makes you certain that the CPU utilization wasn't equally bad in Windows 98?
I run POS all the time on Windows 2000 with no problem and only recently realized that it utilized so much CPU power until I read this and looked. Is it really that big an issue?[/list]

On my Windows 95 box, POS runs really fast. When I run Aprint, It slows down to unusuable status.
Don't Know Why, Really.

In Windows XP, if you are running DHPOS it will really have a CPU usage of 98% to 100%. I have also a problem with this..
to solve this problem, (not 100%) i go to the properties of the POS.EXE then in Misc Tab, i adjust the idle sensitivity to high...
Result: instead of 98-100% CPU usage it drop to 40 - 50%..
Tnx to Dale Harris for this Nice POS software...

Yes it works, I changed the properties>misc tab>idle= high
