Stock codes can be anything you like (numerically, unless you use the vendor stock number option).

You can access the stock table by pressing F1 in a sale, if you want to search and locate a stock item by search.

i also do not have barcodes. most of my merchandise is t-shirts with a few novelty/gift type items.

I solved this problem by making my own "price tags" with the item description, stock code, and price on regular mailing labels using Microsoft Word..then just sticking them on the shirts.

this way customers can see the price without having to ask and the person ringing the sale can easily find the stock number.

this might not be a good option if you have LOTS of items....but its working well for me with my limited number of items.

home-made stock numbers

Post by chasmit » Thu Nov 03, 2005 10:55 pm

I went through 15 years of trying to invent or buy or steal
a logical stock numbering system/scheme
that would sort stuff just the way i want it sorted.
All I could ever come up with would take long-handled
stock numbers that I figured would
sooner or later interfere with or conflict with
somebody else's barcode.
I need straight numeric stk#'s.
And simple is better than long-winded.
Future employees can't be expected to have an IQ of 400
and as I get older I can't be expected to have an IQ
of 400 to remember how to code out a long string of
digits to relate to a Delaware White Azalea 4gal
15-18" bought from Mussers.
So I stepped back down to 3 & 4-digit stock numbers
that are easy to handle.
Use the category, vendor, and item description to search.
I'm also starting to leave the price open on more things now.
Enter the price you sold it for manually as you make the sale.
One big step forward for me was how much quicker a Pentium returns a search by
item description or other field than what the XT's & 286's &
386's & 486's did.
That makes the Item Desc & other field searches much more useful in everyday DHPOS life.
Some UPC numbering schemes are somewhat logical in terms of sorting the items.
Some are not.
Same with your vendors stock numbering scheme.
So if you can't beat them, join them.
Just use short numbers and group them as best you can.
If your Azaleas print underneath your Maple Trees, don't worry about it.
Apparently the big UPC Companies don't worry about it.

I don't use barcode also and all my stock code are in alfanumeric (BG1234 for bags, WL1235 for wallets). I have to change my code?

You will have to give each item an all number stock number to put it into the stock table. However you can also enter your alpha-numeric stock number in to the "vendor stock number" column and use that to ring up the item into a sale. Read this http://keyhut.com/postip6b.htm#vendor
