Migrating from Win 98se to Win 2000 - any advice ?

Post by Robert Nel » Fri Jan 13, 2006 12:38 am

Hi Guys,
I will be upgrading my pc at my pub from a P11 to a P4 in the near future.
This is so that I may be able to run my music, accounting software ect . My system will also upgrade from Win 98se to Win 2000. Is there any problems I may expect?, or any advice I need. I am using POS 657c , parrarel port serial printer, cash draw operating from serial port. Have been using POS since version 347 with the cash draw and the printer setup.
Thanks in advance.

Nope, You Should Be Good To Go When Ever You Do It You Can Expect Alot Easier Use Of Windows (thats a good thing :D ) And POS Should Work Fine Just Make Sure You Get Your POS Files Backed Up Just In Case! :)

Robert Nel,

Is it a serial port printer or a parallel port printer? It cannot be both at the same time. Support for serial port printers goes way down after Windows '98 and it may not be possible to get a serial port printer to work.

A serial port cash drawer will probably still work if you use the SERIAL3.BAT or SERIAL6.BAT option.

Windows 2000 also has alot better security compared to 98/SE because it is based on NT.
