Tracking

Jordan Morley,

My POS software will allow you to ring up video rentals but it will not track the videos as they are checked out and returned.

well i first thought of being able to scan each video with own barcode then return it... then if you return it the money comes back in then thought of that having the video as 0.00 price then adding the rental as another code.. but i am unsure how you can track diferent barcodes to your customers and return them and send to someone else...

by doing it the second way you can have offers like rent 2 get 3rd half price or so

apart from that im stumped, but what we should remember that this software turns a pc in to a purley a cash register with scanning and inventory databases etc etc
may be dale hase something else he built that could work for you to track the videos to the customers

not realy just a till.. what you want is some thing like for tracking and booking in and out the pos would be seperate.. think of a place where that happens every day,, i give you a clue it has lots of books and "sshh" signs in the readers corner!

Jordan,

The only thing that springs to mind is Lexifile from http://www.lex.sk.ca - their DOS version is free now but it is more geared towards Libraries so can be a bit daunting to those not used to MARC records etc.

Yup Lexifile supports fines - let us not forget most Libraries nowadays have a video/DVD collection so LAS (Library Automation Software) is already used in this respect.
