DHPos program closed with error, please help

Post by videotek » Thu May 03, 2007 9:50 pm

Many thank Dale Harris for this wonderful software.

Recently, I downloaded dhpos software v6.39 install on two pc (xp pro) with networking together as instruction. Everything working fine.

Except sometime program closed by itself with error mesg:

"Out of String Space in Line3 of module pos2 at address 1539:4BFF. Press any key to return to System"

After press a key, it just backs to XP windows. dhpos has to re-open again.
It happen 3-4 times every day.

I updated to dhpos v640, same error still happens.
Did I miss any setting, if anyone could give me a clue, I am very appreciate any help.

Out of string space

Post by daleadmin » Thu May 03, 2007 10:08 pm

videotek,

What are you doing when it happens? Are you doing the same thing every time? Does it happen with multi line sales or sales with few lines? Are you taking customer info?

Details please.

Thanks Dale for quick reply my questions.

I asked the girl in the shop. She told me:
quite often like that: when they go to pc, they can clearly see the last sale screen, and then hit enter to try (clean screen)to do next sale, this is the error mesg: screen goes blank, error messg appear.

It happens on single line sales and multiple lines sales, not taking customer info. both pc with exactly hardware and software(one with extra server dir for dhpos).
and this error happens on both PCs.

Thanks again

New sale

Post by daleadmin » Fri May 04, 2007 9:07 pm

videotek,

So the problem happens only when you start a new sale no matter how many lines the previous sale had?

If you use the employee list does it happen before or after you choose the employee?

ThankS Dale for your time.

The problem happens only when start a new sale, and more often on 2-3 lines on the previous sale (further confirmed with sale staff). when it happens the screen goes grey blank and the same error message appears.

We have not use employee list yet, anyone can do the sale.

PC: Asus K8V-VM motherboard, AMD Sempron 3000+ socket 754processor, 256MB DDR memory, XP professional, 80GB hdd.

I am thinking to replace OS with windows 98 second edition instead of XP.
I have on idea it will fix the error or not.

Thanks again.

Hi Dale, we are experiencing the same error message, but very intermittently. It also happens sometimes when parking sales or retrieving parked sales. Never had this with 6.39, only with the newer 6.40!

This file is only a POS.EXE file with the version number 6.40x It can only be used with version 6.40. Make a backup copy of your current POS.EXE file then download this and try it out. Report back.

BTW, how large (in lines) is your stock table?

Thanks Dale,

I had downloaded the 640x version and tried. What happens now, no error message appears and no blank grey screen, no warning, program just closed (when try to do the next sale) and back to windows screen. dhpos has to be start again from desktop. it happens 3-4 times a day.

by the way, we have about 2700 lines in the stock table.

thanks for your time again

Yes, very weird since it is happening to so few people.

However the question about the number of lines in the stock table is how many lines the stock table is set for, not how many you are actually using. For example if you have set the stock table to use 10,000 lines but have only entered things on 2700 lines, the program is then using string space to keep track of 10,000 lines.

How many lines is your stock table set to use?

Yes, I setup 10,000 items in stock table in initial setup.
Should/can I reset down to 6000 lines(we have items about 6000~7000, this is why I setup to using 10,000)?

thanks

round up

Post by daleadmin » Fri May 11, 2007 6:20 pm

videotek,

Round up to the next 1000 after the last line used. For example if the last item in your stock table is on line 6523 then set the stock table to use 7,000 lines.

Then post back and let me know if this helps.

Ok it happened again last night, while re-parking a sale after adding an item. The error message came up, after pressing enter pos closed down!

After re-opening POS, the parked sale had dissapeared!

As to stock lines, mine is set to 1000.

Thanks for help

Bob
