Negative value gift cards?

Post by Jam » Sun Aug 24, 2008 1:44 pm

Is there any way in which a gift card could have a negative value so that a gift card could be used like an account.

e.g
A customer has a gift card with their name as the gift card number, the value added to the gift card could be like a credit limit which the customer pays beforehand
When the customer buys something it can be 'paid' on gift card (added to the account)
If the customer runs out of 'credit', the gift card would go into negative amounts then the customer could be invoiced on how much money they owe?

Just seeing if this could be a temporary way to have a customer accounts feature until the actual one becomes available?

Thanks again,
Jam

Nope, It looks like you are just going to have to wait for the customer accounts feature.

The only way that I can think of that you can do now (without the customer account feature) would be to have a separate pay feature (besides credit, check, money, gift card, etc.), print two receipts, and get their name and number (and more information if needed). Keep one receipt (with the information) and give one to the customer.
 You just have to remember to take the end-of-day totals and subtract the "CREDIT ACCOUNT"

FOR EXAMPLE...

TOTAL: $50

PAY BY GIFT CARD...
GIFT CARD BALANCE: $35

OWE: $15

CHARGE ACCOUNT: $15

OWE: $15 (SHOWS: $0)
CHANGE: $0
