prefill amount for credit/debit charges

I am trying to alleviate some of the entries required in processing transactions. If debit or credit is selected as form of payment the amount due is not preset to the actual amount of the sale as it is for cash payments. Therefore you have to type in the amount each time wherefore when you select cash it is preset to the total of the sale. Can the total be preset for debit /credit as well.
