A bit problem with the printing & cash drawer...

Hi Mr. Dale,

I have a bit problem with the printing & cash drawer. You know when we have to close a transaction, there are 3 options for us to choose. When I choose the 2nd option, the cash drawer opens up (when it shouldn't). This happens when I changed the CPU with other CPU to use, but that CPU didn't work quite right. So I changed that CPU back to the first one, and this happens.
Previously, when I choose the 2nd option, the cash drawer didn't open; only when I choose the 3rd option did the cash drawer open.

Is there any solution for this problem? Hope for your prompt reply.
Thank you very much :)

VNice,

Some info like what version are you using, what os i.e. windows xp, vista,. If we know this we could help you better.

I have not come across this on windows 98se and the DHPOS v7.03.

VNics,

It sounds like it is working fine to me.

Option #2 is to Close / Prrint / Erase / Exit. In other words shutting down the register for the day and resetting the sales totals to start with zeros for the next day. The cash drawer pops open so that you can remove the money from the register, count it, and put it in the safe / bank.

Option #3 just exits the program and nothing else. In this case "nothing else" includes not opening the cash drawer.

Dear peewee,

I don't really remember what version I have... probably before 7.03... and I use it on Windows XP.

Dear Mr. Dale,

Oh, sorry for not making it clearer for you. What I meant was the 'end a sale' options. You know the options are:

1. Cancel
2. Print customer sales check, return to sale.
3. Print receipt, complete sale.

And here when I chose the second option, the drawer just pops open by itself; when it shouldn't.
It should've pops open only when I chose the 3rd option.

Hope for your help on this, thank you :)

Is your cash drawer connected to the printer or the serial port on your computer?

I tried it here on the latest version 7.03 and could no get the problem to occur. Can you upgrade to 7.03 and see if the problem is still there?

Try this. Change the "Open drawer" code to 65,66,67,68,69,70 and then run a bunch of transactions. The new code will not open the cash drawer but it will print ABCDEF on the printer.

The idea here is to see if ABCDEF if printed when the cash drawer is supposed to open and it is not printed when it is not supposed to open. This will tell me if the POS program is not dealing with the code properly of if your computer has gemlins.

Let me know what happens.

the printer printed out ABCDEF and the rest of the receipt, but the cash drawer also pops open either i chose the 2nd or the 3rd option.

so does my comp has gremlins?

Yes, it does.

Since the code is set to 65,66,67,68,69,70 there should be no way for the the POS program to EVER open the cash drawer.

So Gremlins it is.

This kind http://actionflickchick.com/superaction ... ins0zf.jpg

Assuming that your cash drawer is connected to your printer, when you set the printer open code to 65,66,67,68,69,70 it is TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE for the POS program to open the cash drawer at all. Therefore I am blaming it on a hypothetical, mythological, annoying creature with supernatural powers, i.e. a gremlin.

So I have no idea what is opening your cash drawer at any time but it is not the POS program.

Did you buy the printer and cash drawer new, if you did. I would go back with them to the shop you got them from and get them to test them.

Is the cash drawer opening again after a sale. If so it could the code you are using that causing the problem.

Post the code you are using for the cash drawer and I will test it on a till at work to see what happens to mine.
