The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is the second generation Raspberry Pi. It replaced the original Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+ in February 2015. Compared to the Raspberry Pi 1 it has:

A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU
1GB RAM

Like the (Pi 1) Model B+, it also has:

4 USB ports
40 GPIO pins
Full HDMI port
Ethernet port
Combined 3.5mm audio jack and composite video
Camera interface (CSI)
Display interface (DSI)
Micro SD card slot
VideoCore IV 3D graphics core

Because it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10 (see the blog for more information).

The Raspberry Pi 2 has an identical form factor to the previous (Pi 1) Model B+ and has complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1.

We recommend the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B for use in schools: it offers more flexibility for learners than the leaner (Pi 1) Model A+, which is more useful for embedded projects and projects which require very low power.

Who doesn't like a pi fight?!?

Banana Pi ups the pie fight with Dual core, 1 GB or RAM, and SATA support over the Raspberry Pi2.
Banana Pi brings in more resources so that it will function pretty much like a desktop.

Of course if you have any empathy for the original humanitarian cause behind the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s charitable work. Get some Raspberry Pi 2.
If you are just looking for more mem, SATA storage, better LAN; have a Banana if you don't care that its a knock-off and in turn hurts the Raspberry's mission. Get some Banana Pi.

The RP vs Bp benchmarks out there are probably exaggerated by the Banana folks and their distributors as their interest is filling their own pockets.
But being able to hang a SATA hard drive on the banana is a big plus.
In my opinion Raspberry would do well to add SATA, double the RAM and ditch sharing the LAN and USB on the same resource. maybe call it Raspberry Pi 2 Squared.

If you're an empathetic power user, then get some Banana Pi and send the Raspberry folks a donation.

Raspberry Pi2 is flash camera shy

Take a flash picture of you Pi and it will crash your Pi.
Raspberry Pi 2 can be DoSed by bright flashes of light
Flash photography and laser pointers cause new model to crash instantly.
