Idea For New Feature

Post by jamesb(james4de3) » Thu Jul 29, 2004 10:16 pm

I have an idea for a new feature in which you can set the stock table to minus from total. It would be good for if you have different couppons and you don't want employess to change the amount.

They used to have this in version 3.46 or so, but then they simplified it. What else can you do if you can't trust your cashiers?

That was acttually going to make it simplier on the cashiers. So they don't have to type on the cupon price just scan it in.

work around

it is possible,... i havent tried this in awhile but if you create the stock # the normal way and set the opposite of the price you want then open your .tbl file and insert a minos in front of the number.

Uhhh....editing the stock table file manually is NOT a good idea.

That file (and most of DHPOS files) are a specific length, the program knows the length of every record and every field in each record.

If it is one space out in any location because you inserted extra characters such as minus signs - you will likely kill the stock table file because DHPOS will mis-read records and probably die.

Just a friendly reminder from the DHPOS Safety Committee

Simple fix

heres how to *safely* do this:
typ in the stock # and type in the desc. now when you get to the price
type these keys "- 2 0 0 " for a $2 coupon. now the - WONT show, just hit backspace three times (or delete once) and do it again, BAM! it shows and you just entered a coupon.
NOTE: THIS MAY HAVE TO BE REPEATED TWICE!

Dylan,

That is correct - however if you go through the entire stock table doing this on any item that requires a negative price, chances are you may make a mistake.

Then how are you to find out where the error is in that file which may contain up to 13,000 records? If you do fiddle with this - make a backup and be aware that if you don't and muck it up - your stock table will be corrupt.

The absolute safest way is to use the stock table editor in DHPOS and to use coupon/reduction which provide correct tracking of reductions etc...
