I have seen some POS programmes that allow to set some products to come up with a warning asking the cashier to verify something.

For example, at an off-license it be set for certain products to say:

"This product contains alcohol, and may only be sold to over 18s" for alcoholic drinks

or at a pharmacy:

"This is a controlled drug - check with pharmacist"

The cashier can then press "Y" to continue and add the item to the sale, or "N" to cancel that item (for example, if the buyer was under 18, or the pharmacist was on his lunchbreak)
