You've got one example right here - Dale uses QuickBASIC, an old Microsoft tool found in several places on the net.

If you get version 4.5 or 7.1 you will be able to make your programs into EXE program files like DHPOS. 7.1 was the last version released, there is not much difference between 4.5 and 7.1 aside from a few advanced commands which many won't notice anyway.

I use 7.1 just because it's nice to buck the trend - most people get 4.5, it must be easier to find or something.

my DOS 5.0 has
qbasic.exe 04-09-1991
is this a member of that basic family?

That's a version of quickbasic - it will probably be version 1.0 though.

Does anyone know where to download QuickBASIC 7.1, Google hasn't helped.

Google shall not be put down - attempts to do so will result in immediate IP ban! I searched as follows:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q= ... kbasic+7.1

and the second result (which is also a local New Zealand site) has several versions including 7.1, http://qbnz.com/pages/downloads/software
