Hey Dale & Co...

Maybe it's just my imagination, or my computer beeing a pain in the keister....but for some reason I've noticed that with v6.31 I have to turn my NumLock off in order for it to work in DHPOS. True, this isn't a big deal, but I just found it extreemly odd. Any ideas why? Anyone else having this happen to them?

Is it a laptop? Mine does this as well, and it's not so annoying on desktops but on laptops it can be.

No, good ol' desktop. Does it on both machines....they both run WinXP<if that means anything>.

I have not had this problem at all so I am completely happy with blaming it on Windows XP. Is anyone having this problem under versions of Windows other than XP?

I'm on XP and haven't noticed this problem. I use a desktop PC, not a laptop.

Questions for FormicaFun:

1. What exactly happens if you leave num lock on? Are you unable to enter numbers using the numeric keypad? You should have it on in order to use the numeric keypad to enter numbers.

2. If num lock is OFF, are you able to use the numeric keypad to enter numbers in other applications e.g. notepad?

The only instance I can think of is... at work we have a computer using remote desktop connection to control another PC out of town. If that remote PC has it's num lock ON, we have to have our PC's num lock OFF in order to use the numeric keypad.

Well, to answer both questions at once. It's a complete reverse. While using DHPOS if the NumLock is on, the program reacts as is if it's off. IE...2,4,8,6 act as arrows, 3 becomes pg down, ect..... Yet when I turn NumLock off, the program reacts as if it's on IE the numbers function as they would when NumLock would be on. All other programs treat NumLock normally, so you see how this can be confusing when switching applicatons.

I thought that's what you meant.

However I've don't ever recall this problem before. DHPOS operates based on the codes the keyboard is sending to it, and I'm pretty sure Dale isn't remapping our numeric keypads lol.

Oh, I'm sure....just found it odd, and was wondering if anyone else was having the same thing happen to them. Must be my desktops....no biggie.

This doesn't happen to me using DHPOS, but at work it happens from time to time with both windows and IBM OS/2, both on random occassions. The IT department don't have a fix for it.

My only suggestion is tocheck what the setting in your computer BIOS is, but as your problem is intermittent then I really doubt that that s the cause.

Perhaps this is something a google search can fix? Sorry I can't help much more :-(

Thanks for the advice, but I try to leave BIOS alone as often as possible. It's really not severe enough for me to justify screwing my computer to the wall over a misplaced character. I'll try google.com, and post any articles that I find possibly useful to others.
