Depends on what you need to do. A Cash register is simpler to use and sufficient if you are keeping track of Cash. A POS system is needed if you need to keep track of the product you sell. There are some "Cash Registers" that are actually POS machines with a more restrictive interface, but any machine that keeps track of what you sale is more than a cash register.
