Also .com org and nets will never be free here's why
The Regstar (Godaddy 1&1) Gets charged when a domain enters the DNS networks
They pass that charge on to you but you also get support in some cases even free hosting for no addtional charge so.....
The only reason .com's are not free is beacuse of stupid ICANN and Versign which also brings up the lawsuit about those to

Free Domains
Does anyone think that it would be possible to get a petition togeather to try and lobby VeriSign & ICANN to give away domains free, while doing this they would have to chgeck for spam though. Maybe 1 per IP address or something then pay for each additional one.

if domains we're free - you can bet your bottom dollar that EVERY domain will be registered - so there would be no room for others!
Thats a good one though...
"Dear Big Money Making Domain Companies,
Could you please stop making Billions a year and give domains out for free? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
Thanks"

I think it's an unrealistic demand, asking for domains to be free... we have enough namespace pollution as it is, and it isn't free to run DNS for your domain, why should the domain then be free?
And is $5-$10 a YEAR really that bad? That's 3 cents a day, fellas...
