As I'm sure Dale will tell you shortly, the .pos file contains lots of important stuff, like passwords, which is why the format is not publicly known.
That out of the way... Why do you need the .pos file format. Is there some setting in particular that you need?

????.POS file format
Crocker,
I know that you are writing a Windows version of the POS program but you will have to come up with your own ??????.POS file. Jon is correct in that the ?????.POS file contains many things that are hidden and must remain secret like passwords, sales, taxes collected, transaction number, etc.
Remember that the purpose of a cash register is that it is supposed to give an acurate and honest report of what has been sold. Not only to the store owner but also to your local government tax pals. If people knew where information in the ???????.POS file was located then they would be able to change it. This would make my POS useless and it would have to be rewritten.
This also means that no one but myself has the complete file format of the ????.POS file so there is no point in searching for it elsewhere. The secret is being kept by the optimal number of people to keep a secret, just me.
I can give you the location and format of a few particular non-secret things if you wish like the printer setup data or header / footers. No one would care if those things can be changed.
