TimLight> No offense but i extremly disagree acording to the US Anti-Piracy (who also takes care of open source software security) reports less than 2.8% of all open source software in the USA is changed illegallly without the authors signed permisson

Open Source? Yes!!!!

The idea I have when I develop the program is that:
- OPEN SOURCE means it will be open source but... until the next version (Ex. v1.0 to v2.0) is released, the source code will not be released. The actual installer will have a password that will placed on this forum. ALL Passwords and login scripts will be completly different from the last version.

- ALL Versions (either a new release or a version with bug fixes/updated features), it will have a different password

- ALL Passwords will be hard to crack (both installer and program), of up to 7-15+ different RANDOM numbers and letters.

Any suggestions? :)

TimLight, look at linux, it is one of the most stable and widely distributed operating systems out there and it has almost never had any sort of problems. And besides, look at microsoft windows. It is closed source but look at all the problems it has.

Additionally, on sourceforge.net, you must be a developer (with permissions) or the project owner to add code. Even if malicous code were to get out, someone would notice and alert everyone. Also, sure, there are people who get a kick out of writing code (I even mess with my friends sometimes ( )) but there are also lots of trustworthy, honest people who are apalled by people who modify perfectly safe code to a malicous state.

The point is, even though code can be malicously added, the likelyhood of anyone putting in bad code that is actually distributed is much less likely than anyone putting in good code that is not.

well with opensource, all the stuff is viewable through CVS, but you have to be authenticated and approved before you can commit code to the CVS, so for someone to develop a program, they must ask the administrator first. Dales concern is that since all the data is stored unencrypted in files, that people will be able to know exactly where passwords etc are stored.

Using my original post, I will place special security features into the program.

Also, I am now going to register under the name of dhUsr
I will be putting in features such as membership cards, and possibly a touch-screen interface, and/or a gift card feature

Expected Release is by the end of August 06 to December 06, depending on the amount of free time i have.

(Remember, i will register under dhUsr)

Thanks!

Program Idea

Post by dhUser » Wed Mar 01, 2006 4:55 pm

Just a question:
Would you be interested in an ASP.NET version of the POS program I am working on? It will be browser based and just about have the same features as the Visual Basic version.

It will be released along with the Visual Basic Program as in installer

You can answer here or send a PM :)

Touch Screen/Restaurant POS Development

Post by dhUser » Sat Mar 04, 2006 8:16 pm

I have decided for a limited amount of time to stop working on keyboard version and I have started to work on the Restaurant/Touch Screen Version. Most features will be the same.

If you have not already noticed I have posted under dhUser, NOT dhUsr. When registering, I typed in dhUser!

<hr>I am also asking again: If anyone is interested in a ASP.NET Browser-Based POS, please leave a comment or a PM (to dhUser)<hr>

If I do not receive replies, I will not develop the ASP.NET System!

I believe there is a PHP/MySQL pos system on sourceforge somewhere.

but this would have to be AJAX to work good.
