The cash drawers I have worked with all work the same way- it is just a solenoid that gets an electric charge from somewhere.
This "kicks" the catch open that hold the drawer closed.
I have taken a busted till and removed the cash drawer.
With a bit of testing and tinkering I made it work on DHPOS with a cash drawer kick.(not even a printer)
Just be careful of the voltage that the solenoid requires and that supplied by the printer or cash drawer kick.
