Not sure if I can be much help but here goes... I have olny seen 'professional' software written for Telxons by IBM etc. In the UK, Safeway used to use these but ditched them as they were too inflexible, expensive to maintain and old fashioned. It may be possible to reprogram one, or else if you can...

Not a bad suggestion - certain things in the UK are illegal to be discounted (cigarettes for example).

You never know - next time Dale decides to re-write the table it might make it!

There comes a point where some-one will moan about every aspect of the program. I like it how it is, sure there are bits I'd like worded differently and coded differently, but isn't that the way with Office, Windows and every other bit of software you've ever used? Dale, I like it. I like the consta...

This doesn't happen to me using DHPOS, but at work it happens from time to time with both windows and IBM OS/2, both on random occassions. The IT department don't have a fix for it. My only suggestion is tocheck what the setting in your computer BIOS is, but as your problem is intermittent then I re...

Hi Dale, Just a couple of quick ones.... 1. Will the cash drop/pull receipts have enough space for a couple of quick signatures - just something we use for security (blank space at bottom for example?) 2. Is there a minimum payment setting on the cash back? We have a minimum 5 pound spending limit t...

http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en-us/ I think you just missed out the r :-)

Other options to consider include RedHat and SuSe - both really great distros imho.

Hi Gary, You don't say where you are but just to warn you that if you're in the UK you'll need to register as a Buro de Change to stop money laundering. I've no idea how but it's one of those things that we got taught at uni! If you already are then that's ok :-) Or if you're not in the UK then I've...

Here in the UK, Morrisons who I now sadly work for, use this method for pricing nearly all their ownbrand gods - excellent for pricing accuracy - pack price=barcode always. Nightmare for running promotions, planning when goods will be available with the correct barcode on the box! They use the forma...

Something tells me that that questions will not get a straight forward reply - if you know where the value is stored then you can alter it. Hence, with the Z-Read location, I don't think Dale will be terribly forthcoming :-)

I may be wrong though :D

With the prevalence of the .NET languages and their native support on modern PPCs, and the fact that POS is a QBasic program, a better solution may not be a port but a rewrite of the software for that platform. Personally, I would love a version of POS that would run in the OPL language (hence on my...

POS is not designed to run on a PPC, so the fact that it did not work well is hardly surprising. In the future, versions of DOS emulators may allow it to run better. However these are out of the control of anyone here. Unless Dale dumps everything he is doing and works on a PPC version, I don't thin...

However Chris, my printer is 79 characters (God only knows why  ) so a variable width option would be very nice, though I suspect quite code intensive on Dale's side!

Hey ho :-)

However, if you use Windows NT, 2000, ME or XP it ignores Autoexec, leaving it only for compatability issues when using DOS mode programs, so for POS to run at start up at least in these versions, you need another solution. For DOS, Windows 98 SE and below, autoexec is a very good solution, dependin...

I have to agree with Bobby, there are other features that are far more important to me than Quickbooks compatability. IMHO this should go on the back burner for a bit, it's just not useful enough. Once you implement this, won't other people just ask for compatability with program XYZ as it is also v...

Why bother? This is a heck of a lot of programming for no gain (a file for this, a file for that, and another one just incase). I admit, in a pure DOS environment then yes, a line in the msdos.sys file is simple. From Windows 95 upwards it is a waste of your time - drag and drop a link into the 'sta...
