Hi again all.
Anyone know if the Nixdorf BA63 will work with DHPOS or is it a 'specialised' Nixdorf item?
Looks to me to be just a serial pole display but who am I to know..

Pole display
RollerBall,
Unfortunatly the only way to know for sure is to get one of those pole displays and actually try it out.

Thanks guys. Think I'll give it a try as I can get a used one pretty cheap and there's a user manual in pdf on the Wincor Nixdorf web site that looks as though it's got the info in it. Anyway, I'm sure they'd be able to give me the info if it isn't there. I reckon it'll work because it says it's just a 12V serial device.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Ah
I think I have one in the van, it requires a 12v POWERED serial port though!
You would probably need a Wincor Nixdorf PCI Serial card to provide two powered ports.
Alan
(forgot to mention that I work with Siemens repairing the Siemens/Wincor Nixdorf machines)

Hi Alan, thanks for that info.
Haven't got around to trying it yet but a quick look showed that there's a bit more to it than I originally thought. The pole's serial connection is male which of course won't connect with a standard PC serial port (which is also male for those who don't know). I was just going to try a female/female converter but from what you now say I doubt that will work.
Is the Wincor Nixdorf PCI card readily available? I'm likely to need 2 of them.

on the serial port connector is it just a seral connecter with one cord going in with no port for something that looked like a power connecter (the ac/dc adapter kind) if it dosent have a port for a power adater look on the stand of the display and see if there is any open outlets beacuse you could probably buy an adapter if the stand or connecter has a powerport entry if not go with alan's idea or you could look into a super nice pole on eBay made by epson for 19.00 USD

hmmmm...definitely need Alan to come back on this one. As far as I'm aware, standard 'on board' PC serial ports don't supply any voltage. Can anyone confirm that?
The Wincor pole doesn't have provision for an external power source - it needs 12V and that has to come via the RS232.
There's nothing available on Ebay to do the job - and new PCI cards that as far as I can see fit the bill come out at over £100. This makes the poles I've got (two that cost £3.99 each + carriage) totally uneconomic.
Alan - can you help on this one at all?
BTW - they are both used and are very nice. Amazing thing is that they both come with a cable about 25 feet long!!
Alas no
I've looked everywhere and I can't see the Beetle PCI cards for sale anywhere. The Wincor Beetle machines have these ports built into the motherboards, a Beetle 5/XL (P166) certainly has them built in (and usually 3x on the ISA SNIKEY controller card if they have one)
I did find these however - http://www.iposltd.com/ifserpo4.html and http://www.startech.com/ProductSpecs/PCI1S650PW.htm They are designed for EPOS solutions.

Even better
I noticed that you quoted the last amount in UK pounds - how about this?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Beetle-5XL-Siemen ... dZViewItem
Its a Beetle 5/XL, Pentium MMX, 64Mb RAM, 1.6Gb HDD, SVGA card & LAN card fitted. It has 2x powered Male ports fitted. This unit just needs a standard monitor, not a SNIKEY.

Aha - thanks Alan. The base unit is of no real interest as my project involves me putting together my own PC based system. Like the American connection though - cards at around $33. My son lives in Princeton and my wife is about to go out for 6 weeks when they have their new baby. Couldn't work out much better could it really
Thanks for the help - much appreciated.
