I can't run DHPOS under POS with MSDOS 6.22

I can't make DHPOS run on a POS machine. The

specs are as follows:

MS-DOS 6.22
486DX4 100mhz
640k system ram
around 7 mb extended ram

I managed to place dhpos in this machine via network. I checked all the files and they're all there.

When I enter posconfg, pos, and receive. The computer locks up forcing me to turn the machine off and on again.

I removed the cash drawer, receipt printer, and pole display just in case they're the culprit but it still doesn't work.

DHPOS works under Windows XP but it locks up on this MS-DOS machine.

What could be the problem?

I used a boot disk as a last attempt and made DHPOS work. Unfortunately, I think when DHPOS ran just now I somehow managed to bust the POS' LAN card. I doubt I could replace it since the PCI doesn't look like a PCI.

Anyway, my intention for attempting this in the first place was to test if I could get it to network without using a mapped drive. I guess I couldn't find out now until I try it out in the shop so I'll just ask:

Is it possible to assign under "Network" a server path that doesn't start with a drive letter (e.g //x/cdrive)?

I don't think DHPOS can access UNC paths (//PCNAME/SHARENAME), but I'm not 100% sure.

You should be able to map a drive in DOS using the NET USE command.

Sulk,

You can try. When you exit the "Network" function the program will try to place a dummy file at the PATH you entered. If it cannot access the PATH the program will tell you that the PATH cannot be found.

I got networking via the DOS-based POS to work with the XP machine. Now, I'm wondering whether or not DHPOS will work at the shop's POS. I can't afford to open the POS up since I managed to rip the onboard keyboard's very thin and transparent plastic-like cable inside just to replace the defective FDD. The odd part about that cable is that it doesn't have a connector. Anyway, I'll post some pictures of it and the innards of the POS later.

Hopefully, DHPOS would work with the shop's POS on the first try since it also has a defective FDD. I hate FDDs but it's the only way to test out the possiblities of making it work or not. CDROMs are not an option since there's only one IDE cable that only supports HDDs on the BIOS.

It wouldn't be such a headache if I can replace the POS with a regular PC which would make my life easier. Unfortunately it's not an option for the time being with all the business legalities and the things that come with it.

Btw. Is there a software that can let a Windows-based computer to see via Network Neighborhood and transfer files to a DOS-based POS. I have no trouble getting the DOS computer to receive and transfer files to and from Windows but not the other way around
