Disclaimer - it is now 12:01 AM, I have just gotten home from work. I accept no responsibility for the incoherency of the following replies...

a) I try to implement the K.I.S.S principle wherever possible. So in a nutshell - at this point I have no plans to implement a content filtering system, it's not the objective of Odyssey.

b) It's not watered down IE - it is IE, using a standard control, any VB application can display a web browser window and customise it to their heart's content. No, it won't include favourites, as you can see the menu/status/tool bars are all disabled and invisible.

Any favourites you do want - will need to be on your start page - which you design in good ol html.

1) you will learn that these days, pretty much anything is networkable one way or another. Odyssey will function network-wise in the same fashion as DHPOS. You are responsible for having the databases on any hard drive on the network, as long as all the client machines can access the folder that contains them. You must then tell each client what the path is. And before anyone does ask, yes you could have the databases on one of the client machines and map to that folder, however the machine may run slower depending on your network configuration. I told ya it was networkable in the same fashion as DHPOS. :P

2) That's what I expect the users to tell me, I really won't know the system specs until I finish, but as with DHPOS - the hard drive space etc required will depend on the size of your databases once they start filling with data. As for windows versions - I would say Win95 (preferably 98 ) upwards should be usable, as it is a VB app - the VB runtime files will need to be installed as well.

Scott
Items will HAVE to be divided into groups in order to configure the rules for each item, such as loan length, setting which borrowers can borrow them etc...

If you look on page 1 of this thread you can see the screenshots which clearly indicate the grouping options of the catalogue.

OK, in order to satisfy a bit of hunger - I have managed to upload an early test of the WebOPAC. Otherwise known as the website your borrowers can visit to search your library. It is NOT available for download at this time.

Demo site is located: http://n.1asphost.com/abunn/

Note - this is an incomplete demo, you can:
~ search (title, author, keywords ONLY)
~ view results
~ login to My Card with card: 9876 and password: testpin

That's it - if it's not in the list - don't moan that it doesn't work please. ;)

I am not responsible for the uptime/bandwidth etc of this site.

As far as reviews go, will you be able to accept/reject them before they are made avalible to the public?

Also, can a patron submit a request for a certain item?

Reviews are mentioned I know - however I have not decided whether to put this in just yet. If it makes it, yes it would of course give new reviews a "pending" status until appoved by a staff member of appropriate security level.

What do you mean by request? As in request a book for purchase or reserve/hold a book. If it is the latter - the feature is already planned and termed "Hold".

Request for purchase is currently not on the plans. Such requests could easily be emailed to the Library thus eliminating the need for me to program such a feature. :D

Odyssey won't go in reverse, only in drive. Just because it's a library program doesn't mean it won't loan DVD's. Libraries have DVD's too ya know. If you're asking it to charge fees for loans - no it won't do that.

I won't be sending it to anyone either - an announement will be made here and a link to download. At this point - release is a long way off yet.

MJ - are you getting this error on following the link from this forum or from a page on the actual demo - because it is working fine from this end.

There should be an error number such as 404 etc near the bottom of that page - if one is there - please post it.
