Is there a way that I can reset all the sales totals without losing all the inventory items?
I've been printing the D report (Total by Category) and using it to keep track of my daily totals. Now at the end of the year, I can see how much was sold in each category. With the new year approaching I'd like to be able to reset those numbers so they can be my new yearly totals for the new year starting from zero.

Resetting
tmdavenport,
When you close out the register at the end of the day using option #2. Close / Print / Erase, you will be offered the option to "Reset the merchandise data." If you answer "Yes" the program will reset the "Pieces sold" and Amount Sold" for every item in the stock table and if you then do a report "D" it will be empty.

Dale, The option to reset the merchandise totals did not appear, and all the values are still in my D report.

Ran it from the network location and it worked like a charm. Thanks again.

This is almost the same question as above but it's not the 'D' report that I want to reset -- it's the 'A' Total Sales under Sales Report.
I've followed the procedure above to "Reset the merchandise data" but it didn't reset the Total Sales.
Is there a way that I can reset all the Total Sales back to zero? Thanks.

Total sales
JohnHeart,
What version of the program are you using? Later versions offer several options for the "A. Total Sales" report.
Older versions would only create a sales report for the current register that is running. If you closed out the register with "Print/Erase/Exit" then those figures would be reset to all zeros.
After selecting "A. Total Sales" recent versions will also do the above if you press [+] to "Print sales from current register session only."
However in recent versions you can also enter a "Start date" and "End date" to print the totals for all the stored sales reports from when you first used the POS software. If you do not want to include the sales from a previous year then just enter the date from January 1st of the current year as the "Start date" and any sales from previous years will not be included in the report, there is no reason to erase them.
The only way to erase the previous sale reports is to delete the file that contains the reports. But that would erase all sales reports even the ones that were stored yesterday. And why would you want to? Who knows, for some reason you may really want to know what your sales (or taxes) were from 6-1-05 to 6-30-05 and if you erased that data the program would have no way to tell you what they were.

.PS1
JohnHeart,
So why do you find it neccessary to lose all of your old sales reports?
Anyway, the file you are interested in begins with the file name you gave your register file when you created it and ends with the extension .PS1. For example if you named your register file MYSTORE then the file you want would be MYSTORE.PS1
However I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that you just rename this file, then return to the reports feature to see if removing this file has the desired result. If not then you can restrore the orginal file name.
Do not close out the register with "Close/Print/Erase" until you have made the decision on if the computer is doing what you want because closing the register with option #2 will create a new .PS1 file and not use the old on if the old on has been renamed.
