Managing Stock Table From 2 computers

Post by kbunady » Thu May 18, 2006 8:33 am

Dear Dale,

How are you these days ? Feels great, I hope.
I would like to share my problem with you regarding your DHPOS.
I hope you don't mind about that, 'cause I really need your help.
Currently I'm running a new store with DHPOS in 2 cash registers and 1 Back Office for inserting new items or update stock table.
I know that it's not recomended to open and update stock table in 2 computers at the same time. But the problem is if I only use 1 computer to update the stock table, it takes days to complete the task since the items are soooooo many !
Well, do you have any suggestion on how to manage the stock table from 2 computers at the same time without messing the stock table it self ?
Thank you for your help, and keep up the good work !

I wouldn't try that if I were you.

Adding items to the stock table

Post by Dale Harris » Thu May 18, 2006 7:07 pm

kbunady,

Actually the potential problem is not in adding new items, it is in changing or moving current items.

When the program is ringing up sales it may look at where the item is in the stock table and then when the sale is completed it will then update the inventory to the same place. If in the intervening time the item has been moved the program may not properly update the item.

However if you are adding new items then people using the program will not know that they exist and will not be trying to ring them up as you are adding them to the stock table. Just make sure that you are not moving the old items to make room for the new items.
Dale
